Weddings could mean a lot of things to different people. It means separation from the family; it means independence; it means commitment. But for the bride and groom, their wedding is a symbol of their unity, love, and loyalty to each other.
Most couples have a choice on how they want their wedding to be. Some prefer it to be lavish, while other couples prefer this ceremony to be simple. And there are a few couples who prefer to celebrate weddings the unusual way.
Emma-Leigh and Shane Matthews chose their wedding to be held in a mansion in Cumbria, England. It was your typical wedding – beautiful venue, good food, full of people, beautiful bridesmaids, dashing groomsmen, except for one tiny tweak.
The Maid of Honor and the Best Man are both dogs!
Yes, the couple chose their Alaskan Malamutes, Niko and Phil, as the Maid of Honor and the Best Man. And while you may think this is weird, we think it’s fitting – both dogs are the bride’s and the groom’s best of friends.
According to the Emma-Leigh, at first, it was a tough decision to include the dogs in the ceremony because not all venues are welcoming to dogs, especially dogs like Niko and Phil, who have extremely large body frames.
But thankfully, the bride and the groom were able to figure things out, and made their dream wedding come true.
On the big day, both dogs even walked down the aisle with their fur parents. And just like your typical human Maid of Honor and Best Man, they were with Emma-Leigh and Shane the entire day. They even hung out with their parents’ guests!
It indeed was a day to remember for Emma-Leigh and Shane, and so was for Niko and Phil.
Here’s a short clip for you to see how both dogs walked down the aisle on their parents’ big day:
Our best wishes to the newly-weds!
